Controlling weeds and pests is important to maintaining our health and quality of life. It's also important to consider how our actions to control those pests influence the rest of our environment.

That's why the pesticide industry is one of the most regulated industries in the country. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for regulating and registering pesticides, and requires more than 100 studies and tests before even considering a product for registration. Product registration by the EPA can take up to 10 years and involves up to 120 different tests and studies over the course of weeks, months, or even years. Tests evaluate the pesticide's potential to adversely affect humans, fish, wildlife and endangered species. The extensive studies and tests are required to ensure the product does not pose unreasonable risk to the environment.

Healthy, well-maintained lawns and turfgrass areas can contribute to a healthy environment, as well. Turfgrasses offer one of the most cost-effective options for controlling soil erosion caused by wind and water⁶.
