IPM 101: The AND Approach for Confident Control

The holidays are around the corner, and with all the hustle and bustle that comes with this time of year, you shouldn’t let home and lawn issues slow you down. We have a balanced, sustainable solution to solve these issues so you don’t have to choose between sitting in front of the fire and taking care of your lawn – you can do both.

Integrated pest management (IPM) sounds complicated, which is why we’ve simplified the process into three easy steps called The AND Approach: 1) Find, 2) Solve and 3) Prevent. Practicing IPM in your home and yard can help reduce the risk of unwanted weeds and pests through proactive problem solving and the use of EPA-approved products when needed.

This approach means you don’t have to choose between using products or not – you can create a solution that fits your lifestyle to confidently control home and lawn issues today and prevent their return tomorrow.

So while you’re spending your time prepping your lawn and home for holiday visitors, use these steps to keep the unwanted guests out:

1. Find. Before you choose a plan of action, make sure you understand the problem. For example, who’s creeping in your home’s foundation to find a warm place? Different unwanted house guests require different approaches. Then, find the source of the problem and decide the severity.

2. Solve. This step depends on the problem you’re trying to solve. Find the combination of solutions that aligns with your time, expertise and situation.

3. Prevent. The best way to manage pest problems is to stop them before they start. Take care of areas in your yard that could invite the problem to return.

If you’ve completed the three steps of IPM using the AND Approach and are still experiencing issues in your home and yard, consider a trip to the garden center or call in a local professional to help you mitigate your problem.

If you decide it’s time to tackle the problem with an immediate solution, head to the store, but plan to spend some time reading the label directions before making a decision. This extra step helps ensure you’re choosing the right product to solve your problem.
